One of the most well known and usual students complains is: “I have no time for doing the homework, everyone invites me to go out, they party until 9am and they drink like english!”. Its funny, but its real, people arrive and think, this is the year, the month, the week during which time I will be investing my money in speaking other language, meeting new people and enjoying myself as much as possible!, but guess what?, is really difficult to handle in a good and practical way with all the thing happenning in the city, a city which never, but never sleeps!. Yesterday night, november 12th, the goverment of Buenos Aires organized the night of the museums, a night under the beauty of the full moon which delighted 650 thousand people in the metropolis of 10 milion inhabitants:http://notio.com.ar/cultura/todas-las-fotos-de-la-noche-de-los-museos-2011-20580

And, today, Sunday November 13th, the sunny city offered us a beautiful clear for sunbathing, biking, be with friends, or enjoying the nature anywhere in the city, do the students will have studied this weekend?, well I dont blame them, enjoying the city, the people is also part of the practise, would you practise if yu were here? would you make the most of it regarding studying Spanish sistemathically?

I dont blame you, Buenos Aires never sleeps and the good vibe is evrywhere, specially in the spring, be here, be there, be in Buenos Aires, smell the city and Learn Spanish!

bye for now, I hope to be reading you from wherever you are!

Many times I wonder if (we), the Spanish teachers do enough and we are efficient at work in order to explain well and properly our slang in the context of the daily use such as in the street or when we are with our friends. I have looked at many audios online and podcasts that can clarify this topic, but the offer seems to be very small when it comes to the argentinean slang. Have you find anything interesting lately regaring to the argentinean Spanish slang?.

I have come across a podcast from a lawyer who in a very fun and interesting way, specifically from her bathroom shares information about words like “onda” and “fiaca”, here the link to share with you more about this topic!. Share your comments!

Happy listening!

Apparently, it was high time for a change for the “Y” letter wich instead of keep on receiving the name of (Greek i)in spanish, now is called “ye”. In Argentina, this would sounds much stronger than in other places of Latin America and Spain, but its still the same letter. Now that the “Y” is not the greek i anymore, we will call the i, just i and not Latin “i”. If you want to say that something or someone has become an “ex” it will go right next to the word, lets say “exesposa”, “expresidente”,”exlíder” and not ex-esposa, ex-presidente or ex-líder;if its about compound words, you can place ex in a separate way: “ex capitán general”. It was the end for the CH and LL as they are not longer in the alphabet list, they technically dont belong anymore, but they are in the words calle, valle, llaves, chau, che, chusma, etc, so, in total now, the number of letters are going to be 27.

The new edition was not arbitrary, clearly, after 22 academies decided to make the changes also agreed on calling the “B”, “be alta o larga”,and “V”, “Be baja o corta”. Both letter change to the name “Be” y “uve”, in Latin America uve is usually replaced by ve corta.

Probably, one of the most revolutionary changes has been the rule of not stressing the adverb “solo” or th demonstrative pronouns, which is interesting because we would have to be very well aware of solo with the meaning of alone, or just or only. Fortunately, the Royal Ademy of Spanish decide not to punish anyoe if they prefer to stick to the previous use. The “q” was replaced by the K as it was decided that “k” is a spanish letter and because of that consideration now, words like Qatar would become “Catar” or Iraq for “Irak”.

Next time, writing in Spanish will take a little bit more of time, but it will be fun!

keep on learning Spanish!
